The Roessler Estate Vineyard is comprised of three very distinctly different ridge sites on a 40 acre parcel 4 and a half miles from the Pacific Ocean. Our first block is a southwest facing slope that is planted to three acres of Pinot Noir. It includes 30% Dijon Clone 115, 30% Dijon Clone 828, 20% Dijon Clone 777, 20% Pommard. Set back just far enough from the Coast to get a good deal of sunlight, yet still close enough to feel the cooling effects of the coastal fog, this Estate vineyard yields excellent fruit and a compelling wine.
Located in Laytonville in the northernmost part of Mendocino County,
this unique vineyard site sits between 1800 and 2500 feet in elevation,
approximately seven miles from the Pacific Ocean. The coastal influence
results in warm days and cold nights providing ideal growing conditions.
Stuart Bewley’s attentiveness to his vineyards produces fruit of extremely
high quality, and this Chardonnay is a rich, concentrated wine with vibrant
fruit and a lush mouthfeel.
Crisp nose of lean tropical fruit spanning from light pineapple to more overt ripe
mango. As is opens, notes of butterscotch candy and perfumed oak begin to build
as the mango aromas mello into accents over the growing classic Chardonnay fruit.
Terrific bracing acidity on the palate provides a vibrant energy to the mouthfeel,
accompanied by a backround of lush mineral viscosity around tropical fruit and
oak structure. The fruit on the palate follows the development on the nose, with
mango and pineapple at the start flowing into more pineapple, finally coming into a
wonderful balance of tropical fruit, minerality, structure, and verve.
Peach and stone-fruit aromas evolve into honeydew melon on the nose of our 2007 Clos Pepe Vineyard Chardonnay, while zesty notes of fresh cut grass and a whiff of clover complement light toasted oak. The palate reveals an underlying minerality against a full backdrop of tantalizing, fleshy fruit. Crisp and bright, but balanced with depth, this wine is refreshing, complex, and finishes with notes of fruit and honeysuckle.
Blackberry, red cherry, and raspberry play together on the nose of the 2007 Alder Springs Pinot Noir and then yield to spry tones of black licorice and spice. The fruit-driven nose offers balance to the meatiness of the palate, softened by a chalky texture and smooth, rounded mouthfeel. The fruit on the palate deepens after a few tastes into the realm of black cherry and plum and on the finish resolves into overtones of dried fruit and nuanced oak.
