2006 Roessler La Brisa Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir ($30) Named for the coastal breeze that dominates the appellation, Roessler's multivineyard blend stood out this year. Soft, pure dark cherry and damp soil are matched by bright red fruit on the finish and a fine-boned structure full of ripe tannins. Big, evocative and generous. — Jon Bonné

Top 100 Wines of 2008
By the Editors of Wine Enthusiast Magazine, December 2008

Roessler 2005 Clos Pepe Vineyard
Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills); $50.
Clos Pepe is one of those vineyards that rarely fails to dazzle, and Roessler has done as good a job at interpreting it as any of the wineries that designate its fruit. The wine shows a terrific balance of acids, oak and tannins, with an elegantly silky texture and exquisitely ripe, but controlled, cherry, pomegranate, cola, tea and Asian spice flavors that finish with a lip-smacking, chalky minerality.

90 Points - Editors' Choce
Roessler 2004 Wiley Vineyard Dry Riesling (AndersonValley); $18
Far better known as a Pinot Noir producer, Roessler has released this dry Riesling from 25-year old vines, and it’s a terrifically interesting, distinctive California white wine. At 4 years of age, it’s bone dry, showing crisp, vibrant Anderson Valley acidity, and is showing the oily, diesel, peach, honeysuckle and hazelnut flavors of a maturing, Alsatian-style Riesling. Should continue to develop bottle complexity for another decade.

Rating: THREE STARS
2006 Roessler La Brisa Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir ($30)

Aromas of blackberry, wild strawberry, soft cherry, spice and damp soil show a bright liveliness. Lovely combo of Bing cherry, orange zest flavors with a bright red fruit ping on the finish. Long, supple and balanced; shows a seamless, fine-boned structure with pleasantly lingering ripe tannins.
