Planted in 1996, Kanzler was one of the most mature Pinot vineyards in West County. It's a 20 acre parcel which was an old apple orchard. It has gold ridge sandy loam soils. The vineyard is situated on a gentle east facing slope, in a banana belt micro-climate. The weather is often characterized by bright sunlight surrounded by fog with afternoon breezes and cool foggy nights.

The vineyard's clones 667, 115 and Pommard are planted on rootstocks chosen for soil type and vigor. The 667 delivers powerful fruit flavors of dark cherry, black raspberry and strawberry. The 115 adds complexity and the Pommard contributes wonderful aromas of violet and lavendar as well as a luscious mouth feel.

Vineyard owners Steve and Lynda Kanzler believe that great wines are made in the vineyard. They live in a house set in the middle of their vines and believe that what makes for a great place to live also produces the highest quality grapes. They treat their vines with loving care and strive to be good stewards of the land and the environment.
